Sylhet is a city located in northeastern Bangladesh. It has a population of approximately 526,412. Although not directly on the coast, Sylhet is of interest to seafarers, shipowners, and crewing companies due to its proximity to the Surma River, which is navigable by small vessels. Sylhet also has a shipyard called the Bangladesh Drydock and Engineering Works Limited, which specializes in shipbuilding and repair.
