Shildon is a town located in County Durham, United Kingdom. It has a population of around 10,000 people. While it doesn't have any ports or shipyards, it is of historical interest to seafarers, shipowners, and crewing companies as it was once a major center for the railway industry. Shildon was the birthplace of the famous steam locomotive engineer, Timothy Hackworth, and is home to the Locomotion No. 1, the first steam locomotive to haul a passenger train on a public railway.
