Although it is not directly situated on the coast, Umaria is an important hub for seafarers, shipowners, and crewing companies due to its proximity to major ports like Kolkata and Mumbai, which are approximately 900 kilometers away. The city does not have any ports, shipyards, or factories producing ship parts.
