Ashgabat is the capital and largest city of Turkmenistan, with a population of around 1.2 million people. Although it is not a coastal city, it is of interest to seafarers, shipowners, and crewing companies due to its location on the ancient Silk Road trade route. Ashgabat serves as a major transportation hub, connecting central Asia to the Caspian Sea ports of Turkmenbashi and Alaja. The city also has a shipyard, Turkmenbashi International Seaport, and various factories producing ship parts and equipment.
